Changes to US Cross border Tariffs and Fees

2025 Nov 20th

Why I Must Add Cross-Border Fees for U.S. Orders

I want to provide clear information about a recent change affecting shipments from Canada to the United States. Updates to U.S. import regulations have removed the previous “de minimis” exemption, which allowed low‑value goods to enter duty‑free.

As of July 24th, 2026, additional duties now apply to many Canadian goods entering the U.S. In addition to the new 10% Section 301 duty, the postal exemption is being eliminated, which adds a further 9% duty.

These duties must be prepaid by the Canadian shipper before the package can cross the border. This means I am required to pay these charges upfront at the time of shipping, rather than having them collected from you upon delivery.

To ensure smooth delivery and avoid delays, I will need to send a separate invoice for these duties and tariffs before shipping any U.S. order. At this time, checkout systems do not allow these fees to be added automatically. This fee covers:

  • The mandatory 10% Section 301 duty
  • The 9% general rate previously exempt for postal shipments
  • Administrative and processing costs associated with pre‑paying these duties to U.S. Customs

I understand this is a significant change, and I am committed to keeping pricing clear and transparent. Thank you for your continued support as we adjust to these updated requirements.
